Mission Committee

The mission committee guides the congregation towards fulfilling the sentiments of Corstorphine St Ninian's Church’s mission statement, within the parish and outreach to the local community and the wider world.

Congregational Lunch

We have now held many congregational lunches in January each year when things tend to be a bit quieter after the festive period.  The idea was to have members of the congregation sitting down to share a basic lunch of soup, bread followed by cheese and crackers.  Our first benefactor was the work of the Care Van, with a different beneficiary each year, this year being the Cyrenians.

Elders Get Together

In the past we have held Elders' conferences and training.  The Mission Committee felt that some Elders were put off by these formal sessions.  We organised the first Elders Get Together in October 2009.  Over the years we have had some very interesting speakers and we have always had very positive feedback from members of the Kirk Session.

Christening Bibles

When babies and children are baptised it has been a tradition to give a small spray of flowers.  After discussion with Kirk Session we were keen to give each child a gift from the congregation.  Each child gets ‘My First Bible’ a story book well written with illustrated bible stories, rather than a traditional bible.  These gifts are well received.

New Members Socials

Every few years we hold a new members’ social, this is normally in the evening when we invite our new members with their District Elder and senior office bearers.  The new members are shown round the premises which we hope will help them familiarise them with these rather large premises.  This is a very informal evening and a buffet supper is served and is much appreciated by our new members.

Parish Drops

We prepared an information leaflet along with those from many of the organisations using the church premises.  These were distributed to the new homes being built in the Parish.  Hereafter this was extended to cover the whole Parish.

Easter and Christmas Cards

Over a number of years, we have delivered cards to all homes within the Parish and members out with the Parish.  These detail the services being held at these times.

Fresh Start

St Ninian’s first became involved with Fresh Start over 17 years ago, which has proved to be very successful. (See Fresh Start)

Care Van

The Mission Committee felt we would like to become involved in some way with the work of the Care Van.  This has been a great and positive continuing project for us and we have now completed over ten years as volunteers. (See Care Van)
